ISO 19293 – Health informatics — Requirements for a record of a dispense of a medicinal product
This Technical Specification (TS) describes the requirements for the record of a dispensed medicinal product, including cancellation or other outcome that may have occurred at the time of planned or actual dispense.
Information about the medicinal products dispensed to a patient can be useful for several purposes. Information about the medicines prescribed can be useful too, but in certain situations the dispensing information gives more accurate information. For example, if the dispensed product is different from the prescribed medicine in case of substitution, unavailability of medicinal product in the prescribed dosage or route of administration, etc. Beside that, a non-prescription medicinal product can be dispensed. It is further possible that the prescribed medicine is not taken by the patient.
Therefore, information about the dispensed medicinal products is important, and supports use cases like decision support, traceability, statistics, amongst others.
This Technical Specification describes the requirements for the record of a dispensed medicinal product, like:
- Dispenser identification
- Patient identification
- Dispensed product
- The dosage of the dispensed drug
- Quantity
- And some other characteristics
